About Me:
I have been a member of the Porterfield Airplane Club since the 70's when I rebuilt the 1940 Porterfield airplane NC27280. Had to sell it in the 80's because of health problems and since then I find it difficult to forget the joy of being the owner of such a wonderful ,forgiving airplane. I am now retired w/ Grand and Great-grandchildren and my job is to get them interested in Aviation. In my early years I Was a member of the 99'sWomen Pilots Association . and the Experimental Airplane Association. I was in charge of the Women in Aviation Display at the Silver Wings Museum at Mather Air Force Base in Sacramento,Ca.(now closed when the base closed)I started flying in 1952 at Reed Hillview Airport in San Jose Ca.when it was a dirt strip. I flew the tin cans but the best plane was the taildragger/stick operated Porterfield !

Connie,
No Mr. Buston is not a member, but he sure has some stories to tell and is very interesting to talk with. He has worked with Sun 'N Fun for over 30 yrs. (I think that's what he told me) He was there when Ray Carson (A member) donated his son Walter's 1940 FP-65, NC37850 to Sun 'N Fun after Walter and his son were killed in a Culver Cadet in 1994.

No, Connie.
NC27281 is owned by William Buston of St Petersburg, FL. I talked with him on the phone a couple weeks ago and he has it dismanteled for recovering. He now wants to sell it. He works for Sun 'N Fun.

My husband's father is Bobby Reid Jr, Pop's older son. Pop had another son, Johnny, who is still alive and lives near Modesto. Cecil had two kids, a boy Dan and a girl who I have never met.

Hi Connie, Pop and Cecil passed away quite a while ago. Pop lived in Railroad Flat and died in about 1983. He was Robin's grandfather. Robin is actually Robert Reid III, and my son is Robert IV. Robin's dad taught him mountain flying up there at their strip and in the vicinity. We still keep in touch with Cecil's son - he lives up here in Oregon. His son is also a pilot.

My project is coming slowly, since I have two little boys! But Robin welded up a busted hoop on the back of the fuselage recently, and I am whacking away at getting one of the ailerons into shape.

Hi Connie! Thanks for the message - we are getting going on our restoration of the 35-70, and are missing some little details such as what the stringers look like...so we will be asking for some help!
So you flew at RHV...we just moved to Oregon from there! My husband's family is the Reid in RHV. I wonder if you knew any of them?

Hi Leroy, Are you still flying ? Sounds like you just might be near an airport. Do they still have some of that St, Helen's dust around there? I guess you can't stay away from airplanes.... like me !

Hi Clint, The reason I asked about the SR-71 was that my girlfriend in Florida has a son that was a mechanic on them at Beale Air force Base North of Sacramento Cal. He'd visit on his days off because he was so close.to Carmichael ,Sac County. ... I wanted to know how to download pictures to the club. I think instructions are there some wheres. Haven't looked yet.Enjoyed your pics... Connie
