Welcome to our wee club for the skinny birds, Danny. You’ll find lots of info on them in the Forum, Blogs, Photos, and Videos sections. I hope you’ve sat in the Collegiate you’ve made an offer on. You solo from the front only, and having the panel only a foot from your face is a bit claustrophobic, but you’ll be aclimated to it by the time you’ve taxied to the end of the runway. Whatever became of your beloved DH-1?

    Hi Danny:

The Collegiate can be soloed from the rear seat, but the CG is then so far aft, you have to really be on the pedals and she still wallows around quite a bit.  Soloing from the front seat, she can almost be flown with your feet on the floor, if she's been properly rigged and the rudder is flat. As long as you're not much taller than 5'10" and weigh much more than 180 pounds, you should be quite comfortable...as long as the seats are well cushioned.
