Keep the Skinny Birds Flying Safely

I found this old tachometer at a fly in at Hood River back in September. I sent it off to Air Parts of Lock Haven for restoration. They did an absolutely beautiful job! I would recommend them to anyone for instrument overhaul. Not sure what else they do, but I believe they offer other services as well. I had no idea there were instruments that had the Porterfield name on the face plate like Piper did with the Cubs. Anybody out there seen this before?

That’s a fantastic find Mark! I have one but the angle drive wore out. I found a Stewart Warner at Oshkosh and hoping my local instrument people can make 1 out of the 2. (P.S. I’m from down under Australia)

Wow Steve that’s amazing. I never thought I’d see another one of those. I would absolutely get a hold of Erika Air Parts of Lock haven. They were wonderful to work with. I won’t say that it was cheap, but they did a beautiful job. And if it’s just the 90° drive that you need, the Cubs used those so you could probably find one without too much difficulty. The tachometer that I am replacing with the overhauled “Porterfield“ one had that 90° drive on it because the fuel tank is right there. Air parts of Lockhaven also provided an 8130 with the overhauled instrument. Not sure if that’s required “down under mate“ Cheers!

Mark
