Welcome to our wee club for the skinny birds, Tim.  There are quite a few projects out there, and a few flying gals, that could be purchased.  If you've never been in a Porterfield, their cockpits are rather diminutive: if you're taller than 5'10" and weight more than 180 pounds, you probably won't be comfortable.  Porterfields are soloed from the front seat, where the instrument panel is literally a foot away from your face, which some find a bit claustrophobic, but you become acclimated to that by the time you've taxied to the end of the runway.
