The Collegiate predates AFMs and POHs, though there is a rudimentary owners manual for the type that is in the archives here somewhere.  The best way to determine the various speeds is to run a test flight program, as your bird, after eight decades of being cobbled on, is unique, like all antiques. There are Youtube videos on how to do this if your CFI isn't up on it. You can then create your own AFM for the DPE to reference during your checkride.

If you plan to take your checkride in 850, you'll need a NAV/COM radio with an external antenna. I use a Yaesu handheld with a bent whip antenna mounted on the bottom of the boot cowl. I mount the radio on the far left side of the instrument panel, where the tubes come down together.

Gary,

by any chance did you buy NC37850 from Walter & Terry Carson?

I've been going through some of my dad's papers and there is correspondence and some copies of documentation on this aircraft.

Just curious.

Hi Gary,

My name is Terry Bryson and I live in Stillwater.  I have been restoring a CP65 for a few years now and am in the process of putting it back together.  I would love to see your Porterfield sometime or if you are over this way give me a call and I'll give you the grand tour.  405-269-2571.  Since your porterfield is up and running there is a measurement that I would appreciate you giving me.  Mine did not come with the upper tail brace wires so I am trying to use some Citabria wires which are just a little long I think.  If you could give the measurement from upper hole center to lower hole center I would appreciate it.  I have the streamlined wires for the bottom.  I look forward to seeing your plane sometime.  Thanks.

Welcome to our wee club for the skinny birds, Gary! Did you get your Collegiate out of Kentucky? There's lots of good information here in the Forum and Blog sections and also Photos and Videos sections. You have a great trainer for completing your Private in. I use a handheld Nav-Com with a bent whip antenna mounted to the center of the boot cowl bottom. Some CFIs and DFEs won't instruct or perform a checkride without a panel full of instruments, but there should be a few among the vintage crowd over by Tulsa that will. Don't be daunted by idiots.
