Have you ever flown in or sat in a Porterfield? Their cockpits are rather small. If you are much taller than 5' 10" or weigh more than 180 pounds, you may find it claustrophobic or cramped. They're soloed from the front seat only, putting the instrument panel about a foot from your face. I get acclimated to it by the time I've performed the run-up and am ready to take off.
