"Hello Andy, thanks for your suggestions and information. I too use the AIR TRAC tires, though almost exclusively on paved surfaces. The tread is about gone on the right tire but they have 650 hrs and 13 years use so it's time to replace them…"

Inner Tube for Shinn/Firestone wheel 6C5HB

I need to replace the inner tubes in the 6.00x6 tires that are mounted on the Shinn 6C5HB wheels. Does anyone know if the Aero Classic TR-87 70 degree bent stem tube will do the job? Any recommendations for an inner tube with a stem that will pass through the wheel ?See More

"Harry Fenton, the A65 guru, writes, “The only magnetos that bolt up to the A-65 are models 4302, 4230, 4330 and 4333. There are some military surplus magnetos, model 4220, that are sold cheap and claimed to fit the A-65, but they do not.…"

Replacing Bendix SF4-RN8 mags with SLICK 4333

Has anyone preplaced the old Bendix SF4 mags on their CP-65 with SLICK 4333 mags?It appears that spacers are required between the accessory case and mag to accommodate the required impulse coupler. I welcome any and all information or comments on the conversion process and parts required.See More

Profile Information

About Me:
I'm a retired electronics engineer with a love of old machinery, especially antique aircraft. I like things that are minimalistic and direct, the Porterfield is about as basic as you can get, love it!
I'm originally from SoCal. but have been living in Mexico since 1998.
Do you own a Porterfield Airplane? N#?
I have owned NC27250 serial # 739 since I rescued it from Meadowlark apt. (Sunset beach Ca.) in 1988. It's rebuild was a 20 yr effort that involved 5 moves, the last being to Mexico in 2000.
The craft is now registered in Mexico as XB-KXV and is the sole example of the type here.
Are You a Pilot? Ratings?
I hold U.S. pilot cert. ASEL, 250 hrs in the U.S. , 283 hrs in Mexico.

You emailed me photos of the radio cluster, about 3 years ago, that I still have. The FAA in New England is so useless for approving changes to aircraft certified under CAR 3, 3A, and 4, that I was thinking of mounting a MicroAir transponder and an encoder in a box that I could temporarily install in my Collegiate and then mount the antenna on the belly with a light gage sheetmetal groundplane above the fabric. Is your encoder's static line just open to the inside of the wing?

iHola Mark! Como esta?
How is your little radio cluster in the wingroot working for you? I was planning on doing something similar here, but the FAA pencil-necks here were having a hard time with me recovering the plane with PolyFiber instead of Grade A...
