Keep the Skinny Birds Flying Safely

Hello fellow Skinny birders. My fuel tank shut off valve is leaking past the packing nut. Does anyone know what the correct packing would be to use so I can rebuild it? Maybe it’s a generic packing that’s fuel proof. But thought I’d put it out there and see if anybody else has done this before.

Thanks,
Mark

Are you able to take a photo of the valve and post it here, Mark? Over her 80+ years, she may have had the factory installed valve replaced by a non-standard type. Is there a second valve installed down under for draining the fuel tank sump?

Hi Andy, I’ll go down to the hanger tomorrow and get a photo. Pretty sure it’s original. And yes, there is a different valve for the low point sump.

I have some old drawings. Drawing number 1817 refers to “fuel shut off contro, drawing 1846” I don’t seem to have that drawing. It may show the spec on the packing. I will get a picture of what is presently installed for the fuel shut off valve and send it tomorrow.
