Are you able to take a photo of the valve and post it here, Mark? Over her 80+ years, she may have had the factory installed valve replaced by a non-standard type. Is there a second valve installed down under for draining the fuel tank sump?
Hi Andy, I’ll go down to the hanger tomorrow and get a photo. Pretty sure it’s original. And yes, there is a different valve for the low point sump.
I have some old drawings. Drawing number 1817 refers to “fuel shut off contro, drawing 1846” I don’t seem to have that drawing. It may show the spec on the packing. I will get a picture of what is presently installed for the fuel shut off valve and send it tomorrow.
I wasn't able to make it to the hanger today to get a photo of my leaking fuel shut off valve, but should be able to this week.
Fuel shut off valve photos.
Appologies for the orientation of the images, it somehow changed when they were added.
I don't have drawing 1846, either, and who knows if any other members have it. Brad Rankin might have it, but that would require him to go through what his grandpa left him, and he's likely too busy to help us out.
You have an old brass, Imperial shut off valve, but I don't have a part number for it. You may have to go with a modern form/fit/function replacement, like an Apollo ball valve that is used in the Husky and American Champion types. Measure up your valve so you know what thread the inlet/outlet is and if the existing lever can work on the new valve's shaft.
