"Is anyone flying their Porterfield to AirVenture this year? I now own one of two in the state of Wisconsin and am tempted to make the flight for one or two of the days."

"Yes for metal props the TCDS gives only a couple options but with wood or adjustable hubs by my interpretation you have a very wide scope of options as long as it meets the length and static RPM requirements. We put the current prop on as a test…"

"I have a 72” 50 pitch on mine. Just finished flying the first 10 hours since its last flight in 1965. I can tell you it meets the minimum RPM but really lacks climb performance. Highly suggest something with less pitch. One that note does…"

"Thank you for getting another Skinny Bird flying, Trevor! The Collegiate is very similar to the Champ and Cub taxiing and taking off. Landing, it is best to come in a bit high and slip as needed, or carry some power. Like the Cub & Champ, 60mph…"

Looking for Tips on Flying the CP65

I’m days away from getting our 1940 Porterfield C65 airworthy after not flying since the 1960’s. I am seeking any advice from those with experience flying the skinny bird.We do not have anyone in my area familiar with the type for a formal check out so at this point I am planning to just take it out like I stole from Dad’s garage. Insurance is fine with my total tail wheel time( predominately in a Stinson 108-1)but they want 10 hours in type first before coverage begins.Worst case senecio as an…See More

"Well mine was just up the road outside Green Bay, WI so no worries. Hoping to do it’s first flight in a few weeks. Just got it running again this week. Based on the records my best guess is it hasn't seen the air since the 1960’s."

I just emailed you a drawing for the front strut, in case you end up having to make your own.

Cool! Another lady returned aloft! What are her N# and serial #?

I haven't heard of anyone ever installing VGs on any Porterfields before, so you'd be a pioneer, if you decide to dance to very long song with the FAA for a field approval. The modified M-6 airfoil stalls straight ahead just under 40mph, but cruises close to 100, so I'm not sure how much benefit the VGs will provide.

Where did you get your A&P?

Welcome to our wee club for the skinny birds, Trevor!  Did you buy Roger Allen's old girl?  Will you be bringing her to Oshkosh?  It's been years since we've had a Collegiate or Flyabout represented there.  There's lots of good info in the blogs and forum, and informative photos in the pictures and videos.
